Comprehensive Therapy
In comprehensive therapy we will build a full plan that includes 12 sessions. The first phase of therapy is starting to create awareness around the tongue and breathing. Exercises will be given to help strengthen the tongue lips and face to improve coordination and function. If a frenectomy is needed this phase will also include the preparation and post care for that treatment. Sessions are usually spaced between 1-2 weeks depending on what works best for the patient. After this phase our goal in the second phase is to build strength and awareness in the middle portion of the tongue and continue on into the third phase where we learn how to correct our swallowing patterns. This last phase usually consists of sessions being 3-4 weeks apart to give more time to practice correct swallowing for the body to integrate naturally. Comprehensive therapy can range from 6-9 months.
2.
Pre and Post Frenectomy Therapy
Pre and post frenectomy therapy will consist of 5-6 sessions to optimally prepare the patient for treatment. Strengthening the muscle and working on coordination, function and starting awareness. There will be pre op and post op stretches to help with correct healing to help with possible reattachment. It is often suggested to continue therapy to help correct swallowing habit after frenectomy treatment and create strength in the middle portion of the tongue.
3.
Low Tone and Tongue Thrust Therapy
Therapy sessions ranging from 8-10 sessions to help create strength and function in patients who struggle with tongue thrusts and don't necessarily need any surgical treatment. An evaluation and assessment for a tongue tie will be done and also referred to a collaborating provider to determine need for a release. Swallowing exercises are included in these sessions to help retrain tongue thrust habits and improve swallowing.
4.
Additional Therapy
Sessions that can be added on if there is additional needs ranging from just needing more time to integrate habits and strengthen muscles or to focus on. Or to include TMJ, sleep disorders breathing, and correct swallowing exercises for specific client needs . Check ins after the therapy are also available to see how progress is maintaining, questions that need to be answered or exercises reviewed.
